Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Source and purchase primary raw materials including wood, steel, and spool items.
  • Oversee the purchasing of packaging supplies, and externally manufactured products, and support customer blanket orders.
  • Generate, distribute, and reconcile purchase orders, ensuring accuracy and timely processing.
  • Negotiate with and select freight carriers for inbound and outbound traffic; handle freight rate requests and scheduling of shipments.
  • Audit freight charges, approve or dispute freight invoices, and address vendor billing disputes.
  • Monitor and report on stock status, monthly usage, inventory levels, and establish re-order points.
  • Coordinate interplant shipments and support the scheduling of metal production.
  • Notify sales teams of early deliveries and handle contacts from the purchasing and transportation sectors.
  • Update management with material pricing, and market information, and establish cost values for various items.
  • Build and nurture relationships with primary and secondary supply partners, including occasional site visits and attending relevant trade shows.

 Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain, Logistics or a related field.
  • Minimum of five years of experience in purchasing.
  • Proven experience with transportation, logistics, inventory control, and warehousing.
  • Familiarity with production scheduling preferred.
  • Proficient with ERP systems and digital tools.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to multitask.
  • Ability to supervise and collaborate with various teams.
